Since the first canopy went up, the design has become a shorthand for the Washington Metro, and it has started turning up in video games and other popular culture, sometimes as a faithful copy and sometimes as a loose imitation. Here are some of the appearances I've come across, in three games: two set in Washington itself, and one in a fictional Los Angeles.
Grand Theft Auto V (2013)
A Metro entrance in Rockford Hills, Los Santos, the game's version of Los Angeles
Grand Theft Auto V (2013)
Another Los Santos Metro entrance, seen from above: the gridded glass vault and angled struts carried over almost intact
Fallout 3 (2008)
A Metro entrance in the ruins of Washington, reimagined in the game's riveted retro-futurist style
Tom Clancy's The Division 2 (2019)
A strut's pinned base, modeled closely on the real canopy's connection, wrapped in barbed wire
