Glavé & Holmes Architecture

Since 2022 I have been an architect in the Preservation Studio at Glavé & Holmes Architecture in Richmond, Virginia.

Glavé & Holmes is a nationally recognized architecture, interior design, historic preservation, and planning firm of nearly sixty people. Jim Glavé founded it in 1965, and his early work to preserve historic buildings in Richmond's core set the firm's long commitment to preservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse. The firm's recently recognized preservation work includes the restoration of the Sir Christopher Wren Building at William & Mary, which received a 2026 AIA Virginia Merit Award, and the rehabilitations of Waterford Mill and the Taylor House.

Preservation draws on everything I have done before: the historic preservation work of my own practice, the forensic study of lost buildings through their original drawings, letters, and documents, and a lifetime of drawing buildings by hand.

Coming into architecture from a background of painting and sculpture, I am inspired by the thoughtful examination of nature and its underlying forms, structural logic and innovation, and the integration of architecture with the landscape. I apply these instincts more broadly through the analysis of historical precedents.
